Conceptual demonstration

Automatic stock levels for consumables

How weight-sensing bins and tank level sensors could replace manual stock counts for consumables and trigger reorders in an existing ordering system.

Conceptual demonstration

This is a conceptual demonstration: a worked example of how LIOMO would approach this kind of system. It is not a client project, and it describes no real customer, site or result.

Illustrative interface · demo data. A stock dashboard showing eight sensor-equipped bins with fill levels; two are below their reorder threshold and have reorders raised. A lubricant tank level and a consumption trend are shown alongside.

Challenge

The scenario

Imagine a maintenance operation holding fasteners, spare parts and lubricants across several stores. Stock is counted by hand once a week, items run out between counts, and some are over-ordered to be safe.

Approach

How LIOMO would approach it

  • 01

    Connect

Place weight-sensing bins under small parts and level sensors in lubricant tanks, linked to a gateway in each store.

  • 02

    Collect

Convert weights to item counts using the unit weight of each item, and levels to litres using the tank geometry.

  • 03

    Understand

Show stock per item and store, with consumption trends and days of cover.

  • 04

    Act

Raise a reorder in the existing ordering system when stock falls below a threshold.

Architecture

System components

Sensors where counting is costly, integration where ordering already happens.
  1. 01

    Weight-sensing bins

Item counts derived from weight and unit weight.

  2. 02

    Tank level sensors

Levels calibrated to litres for each tank.

  3. 03

    Inventory platform

Stock levels, trends, thresholds and sensor health.

  4. 04

    Ordering integration

Reorder requests passed to the existing system through an API or file exchange.
